Having won the toss, Knebworth decided to bowl. It was a good toss to win as it was a wet green wicket and the Park started well with 2 wickets in the first 5 overs. The tight bowling continued to restrict the home side and Hatfield could only move to 52-2 after 20 overs. As well as the excellent bowling, there was a great fielding effort from the Park and with some excellent middle overs from Ian Hildebrandt who bowled 9 overs straight through and only going for 18 runs. The wickets kept tumbling at the other end where Darren Hopcraft took 3 wickets in his 4th over and finished with amazing figures of 9 overs 2 maidens 21 runs for 4 wickets, Knebworth finally finished off the Hatfield innings in the 36th over restricting the hosts to 114.
In reply knebworth didn’t get off to the best start losing one of the openers without troubling the score, but a great 2nd wicket partnership of 80 between youngster James bedford (32) and skipper Ryan Hassall (46). When Ryan fell, at 92-2 the Park looked like they where cruising to victory but made it hard for themselves by losing 4 wickets for 3 runs. However, Dean Digweed and Ian Hildebrandt(17*) dug in and saw Knebworth over the line in the 35th over.
A good win and a lovely day for cricket to be played at long last
