It’s time to dig out the cricket gear because the new season is approaching rapidly.
There are just two days until the first senior friendly fixtures, so make sure the bat is oiled (does anyone oil a bat any more?) and the stinky socks and jockstrap which have been festering all winter have at least had a spin through the washing machine.
The action has already begun for some with an interclub match on Saturday. This weekend, however, the firsts taken on Hayes and the seconds are up against Barnville.
Another round of friendlies the following weekend will be your last chance to get in some practice before the league season starts on May 6.
For those that are really rusty, pop along to training from 5.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Junior training begins this Sunday, too. It’s open to everyone but, if you are not sure if your child is going to enjoy it (they will), the the first session is free.
Best of all, every Sunday Wayne’s Cafe bar will be open for bacon butties, tea and coffee, just as last year.
The club has also signed up to be part of the nationwide All Stars cricket programme which will be run at half term, which will run from 10am till 3.30 for four days.
There will also be training weeks in the summer holidays, details on these to follow.
Importantly, we also need more helpers for juniors training, so please tell Chris Johnson if anyone can assist.
Training will also get a boost with the arrival this summer of two old friends, Graham Rose (known as Rosie) and Jarrod Turner (JT) from Australia. Both are outstanding coaches and top blokes, too.
Off the field, lots of hard work has been going on to get the ground ready, with the pavilion getting a much-needed makeover.
The effort of senior players goes to show the value of voluntary effort which is part of the club’s special spirit.
All players can help the club by making sure they pay their subs, which are now due. – please pay via Clubpay or at the bar.
Those requiring cricket shirts should order these direct from Tylers.
An, finally, a reminder that if you’re shopping online, log on here first. With every purchase you make the club makes money without costing you a penny extra.
