It was another tough day at the office for the Thirds but there were plenty of bright moments in their defeat to Old Albanians II under Saturday’s gloomy skies.
They were pummelled for 325-8 by the visitors, whose stylish wicket-keeper batsman played superbly in compiling a chanceless 161 not out.
But there was a first league wicket for under-13 Dylan van der Westhuizen, while Jack Randall bowled a superb opening spell and did not waver as he returned at the death to complete a full allocation of ten overs.
Under-15 Catherine Cirkel also impressed with her off-spin as she also claimed her first wicket for the Thirds.
In reply, the Park were away to a breezy start through John Inman (39) and Ian Pickering (20), before their enterprising work was continued by Jonathan Cirkel with a bright 34.
But the batting of another under-13, Ollie O’Brien, showed the club has a bright future as he played with great composure in a measured 22, earning generous praise from the visitors.
However, the daunting target was never seriously threatened and the Thirds were bowled out for 151, albeit their highest total of the season and earning enough bonus points to lift them off bottom place in the table.
