An impressive batting effort by the Seconds was undermined by a disappointing bowling display that cost them victory at Hatfield Hyde.
Tom Liversidge held the innings together with a club-best 76. Robert Morley (27), Mark Winchester (23) and Ross Courtney (26) rounded off a fine team batting display of 230 all out.
Jonathan Russell, who had taken 5 for 35 in the Park’s innings, then held the Hyde innings together with 72. After opening bowler Gareth Jones made the first breakthrough, new player Geoff Bagshaw pegged them back with 2 for 18.
After Jones returned to take a second wicket, further dismissals followed at regular intervals with Ross Courtney taking a valuable 2 for 25.
What, however, proved the Park’s downfall was the huge number of wides, bowling a total of 48 that in the end probably cost them victory as the home team edged home by two wickets with 229 for 8 in the 47th over.
However, in taking seven wickets they were able to walk away from the game with a high scoring point tally of 17.
