A bright but what turned out to be very chilly evening at Hatfield Hyde ended with a commanding win by the under-14B side despite being 10 against 11.
Charlotte W won the toss for KPCC and elected to field first. The decision looked to be a superb one as Drav removed the Hatfield opener with his very first ball – a quick delivery, of good length and just clipping the top of the stumps. A wicket maiden to start the game.
The Hatfield score ticked along for the next four overs but in Catherine’s second over she bowled the other opener and the No.3. With her third over being a maiden, she finished with superb figures of 3-1-2-2.
The fourth wicket stand was a very respectable 41 with the HH Nos.4 and 5 rebuilding the innings with 16 and 20 respectively but the No.4 fell in the 15th over followed in the same over by the No.6. A superb first over for Lorna who then went on to finish with 2-0-6-2.
Further damage was caused to what could have been a respectable batting score (HH were targeting at least 100) when Dylan came on and again took two wickets in his opening over. He also finished with impressive figures of 2-0-5-2.
The aim of this side is to ensure everyone participates and all nine bowlers bowled well and the fielding was very tight too with an excellent catch taken by Imogen and she backed that up throughout the innings with her excellent throwing arm and movement in the field.
So, with HH scoring 92 for 8, KPCC had a target of 93 to chase.
Drav and Catherine opened the innings and both looked in attacking mood from the first ball.
Unfortunately, a number of wides actually prevented them scoring as freely as they might have but the runs soon started flowing.
However Drav fell in the fourth over for nine runs but Catherine continued in very attacking mode partnered by Ollie.
With a couple of tasty drives through extra cover and anything down legside being dispatched, Catherine raced through to retiring on 26 from just 17 balls including possibly the best hook at any age group this year!
The HH bowler at close on 6ft (under-14, remember!) got bounce not often seen in the leagues but was smashed through square leg.
Charlotte fell to a low-bouncing delivery after some nice shots for her 10 and Ollie continued his form from the seniors at the weekend with some nice stroke play to finish on 14.
Extras top-scored but that takes nothing away from a good batting display and some super team work, Knebworth finally winning in 13 overs.
An excellent performance – keep it up team.
