Wounded knee: Guy Warman made crucial contributions with bat and ball but hurt his knee while bowling
The Firsts went into Saturday’s home fixture against Old Finchleians knowing that a loss against league bottom would mean the mountain out of relegation would be too high to climb.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a surprisingly dry Knebworth surface.
The wickets were shared by the Park bowlers with Guy Warman (3 for 10} and Ben Orchard (3 for 27) providing the best returns. The opposition scrambled to 111, perhaps the only downside was Warman’s knee giving way mid-spell, leaving a question mark over his bowling future.
With a relatively low target set the Park batsman looked to play positively ensure the 30 points. Although stumbling early on, the innings was rescued by contributions from Warman (19), Adam Sergeant (19) and captain Sam Gardiner with 34 not out.
The victory breathes a little life into the Park’s season, albeit remaining 2nd from bottom and 54 points adrift.
