The Firsts needed a boost this week after a disappointing start to the season and they turned it round in some style with a crushing victory against Old Finchleians on Saturday. Instrumental to that all-important win was Sayf Khan, whose ten-over spell of fast-medium returned the impressive figures of 4-14, which was almost as miserly as birthday boy new ball partner Graham Fisher. Anyone who saw Sayf’s incredible century against Hemel Hempstead last year knows about his power with the bat, now it looks as if his bowling is coming to the fore, too. We hope it kickstarts the Firsts’ season and they go on to a successful year.
Every week, the chairman will select the player who has produced the most exceptional cricketing performance of the weekend programme. It won’t necessarily be the highest scorer nor the bowler who has the best figures but someone who has produced that little bit of magic to win a game or turn a match around. We hope his or her team-mates join the celebration by paying for their drinks at the bar.
