The club needed a boost after the disappointment of seeing our young Firsts slide into the relegation zone. Several great performances this weekend, especially in the Fourths and Seconds, certainly gave us a lift. Sandy Reynolds took five wickets and Mark Taylor four to set the Fourths on the path to victory, with Dave Barwick and Robert Crowe both making fine unbeaten 40s to complete the job. The Seconds game at home to league leaders Harpenden was a thriller, completed while the rest of the club cheered from the pavilion in the gathering gloom. It ended with Guy Warman shattering the stumps of the visitors’s No.11 to claim his seventh wicket of the game. His epic bowling effort, finishing with 7-88 off 21 overs, as well as a valuable contribution of 28 with the bat, earns Guy this week’s performance of the week award.
Every week, the chairman will select the player who has produced the most exceptional cricketing performance of the weekend programme. It won’t necessarily be the highest scorer nor the bowler who has the best figures but someone who has produced that little bit of magic to win a game or turn a match around. We hope his or her team-mates join the celebration by paying for their drinks at the bar.
