Yesterday’s 2020 for the Nick Simpson Memorial Trophy was a fabulous event with the over-25s beating the under-25s on the penultimate ball.
The unders were soon in trouble, with Richard Leather and Matt Hutchinson out cheaply, before Parth Patel pulled the innings round to a healthy 178.
The overs had an indifferent start but Nick English and Alex Richmond who hit some mighty sixes to haul the chase round and it was left to skipper Ryan Skeggs to see them home with a ball to spare.
Chairman Chris Johnson said: ‘It was a really lovely day with lots of fun, banter and music.
‘For those who don’t know, Nick was a fine fast bowler, a dedicated cricketer who had just broken into the Hertfordshire senior squad when he was taken from us aged only 19 – and each year this match takes place in his memory.
‘All Nick’s family was there and it was heartening to see so many players there to remember him.’
