Devastating burst: James Leather produced one of the spells of the season to claim seven wickets against Hertford
Twin tyros Richard and James Leather powered the Firsts to a superb victory over high-flying Hertford on Saturday.
Opening bat Richard smashed 136, his second league century of the season, to take his side to 243 all out. The visitors were cruising to victory before brother James blasted away the Hertford middle and lower order to claim seven wickets and earn a 13-run win.
Young leg spinner Jason Timm took six wickets to set up a comfortable victory for the Seconds away at Waltham Cross Rosedale.
The home side’s 134 all out was easily overhauled as a Guy Warman half-century ensured a six-wicket victory.
New captain Sean Carmody saw his Thirds team earn a heartening draw away at Chipperfield Clarendon II. Set a demanding 247 to win, the Thirds were well in the hunt, thanks to a sparkling 84 by Bret Painter before playing out a draw at 206-9.
The Fourths suffered a six-wicket defeat against Welwyn Garden City IV after they were shot out for 105.
There were defeats, too, for the Fifths and Sixths, although chairman Chris Johnson was delighted to see the club get out a full complement of sides despite some late withdrawals and several senior players being absent.
