Our new covers showed their value at the Park on Saturday as they ensured both games went ahead with a minimum of delay.
After a damp morning and showers that hung around beyond the scheduled start of play, they proved invaluable in keeping both pitches dry and wasting no time in getting the action under way.
It was a stark contrast to earlier in the season, when games were lost or, in the case of the bottom pitch, made it soft on top and the ball leapt alarmingly.
Instead, the Thirds played on one of the best tracks they have encountered all summer… even though it made easy for the opposition to chase down 200-plus!
Again, the club should be grateful to David Baird for his hard work in securing the funding for the covers.
Chairman Chris Johnson said: ‘The covers are a fantastic addition to our facilities and really showed their worth on Saturday.
‘One polite request, however. If rain is forecast overnight, we need to get the covers on the pitch on Friday night to give us the best shot of protecting the square for Saturday’s matches.
‘They don’t go on by magic so it would be great to see a few more spare hands on Friday evening to get them put in place.
‘The forecast isn’t great for next weekend so it might be another test for the covers. Volunteers for this quick task are always greatly appreciated.’

All hands to the pump: The covers were on and off at the start of the Seconds’ game
