A Knebworth side made up of six under-14s and five under-11s lost a thrilling game at Broxbourne by just three runs.
The spirited effort of the Park team proved far more entertaining for the spectators than England’s drab football victory over Peru which was playing in the bar.
Broxbourne scored a competitive 108 for 7, with three wickets for Matt Inman, two for Harry Holman and one each for Stefan Jones and Alex King. There were catches for Stefan and Matt and a stumping for Louis Heap but the real highlight in the field was the total commitment of all the boys chasing and diving for everything. The U11s should be very proud of their efforts .
Batting. Gus Laws Mather played an excellent innings, matching sensible defence with some tremendous hitting on his way to an excellent 50. Only Gus and Matt got into double figures. Broxbourne’s very talented left-arm spinner dismissed Louis and Harry; Stefan was sadly run out . The boys got to the last over needing six to win but couldn’t quite make it .
However by playing KPCC moved up the league table with 17 bonus points , far better than ten for rained off or nought (and 30 for the opposition) by conceding.
