May 10: This has been the week of the juniors; every team has got off to a winning start in their competitions. There have been some excellent performances, including four wickets for Kobie Richmond in the under-11s and several batsmen having to retire on reaching 30. However, under-14 Archie Stephens stood out this week for taking three wickets in an over in his side’s emphatic victory. In Saturday’s curtailed Fifths fixture, Archie impressed watching chairman Chris Johnson by helping to rescue his side from the loss of three early wickets with a mature knock of 20 not out before the rain intervened.
Every week, the chairman will select the player who has produced the most extraordinary cricketing performance of the weekend programme. It won’t necessarily be the highest scorer the bowler who has the best figures but someone who has produced that little bit of magic to win a game or turn a match around. We hope his or her team-mates join the celebration by paying for their drinks – soft ones only, of course, for Archie – at the bar
