Why was chairman Chris Johnson beaming this week? Because he was so thrilled with the 14-14 day at the club on Sunday. Good weather, entertaining cricket, great atmosphere, old friends returning, some new ones made. He called the event ‘a landmark day’ for the club. So, he decided to nominate a list of heroes this week who made the day come about. First, Jarrod Turner, our returning Aussie club legend, who brought a group of talented and entertaining cricketers to the Park; also Ross Courtney for preparing the ground, Shaun Robinson for providing the musical entertainment, Neil Pitts for umpiring, Paul Sheffield and, last but very much by no means least, Mark ‘Slogger’ Folwell for his marathon stint behind the bar. Let’s not forget all the players and supporters, who deserve a round of applause for turning out, as well. The chairman can’t nominate himself but, of course, he deserves a giant pat on the back for organising it, too. Thank you all – and apologies if we forgot someone – for putting a smile on the chairman’s face.
Every week, we salute the member or supporter who has gone that extra mile to help make our wonderful club that little bit more wonderful. We’d like to offer him or her a holiday in the sun or the latest smartphone for their selflessness but instead they will have to make do with this small public pat on the back.
