April 19: The first club hero of the week is new head groundsman Ross Courtney, who earns his honourable mention for producing two terrific pitches for the first home games of the season. The top pitch produced nearly 500 runs in 90 overs in a thrilling encounter; the third XI pitch was well grassed but played extremely well and had surprising amounts of bounce for April. The low scores were down to the frailties of the batsmen and skill of the bowlers. Promising signs for the rest of the season.
Every week, we salute the member or supporter who has gone that extra mile to help make our wonderful club that little bit more wonderful. We’d like to offer him or her a holiday in the sun or the latest smartphone for their selflessness but instead they will have to make do with this small public pat on the back.
